M:You look great today.
W:Um ... I’m enjoying myself in the sunshine, breathing the salty air and listening to the sound of waves.
Text 2
W:Wow, finally all done after 2 weeks’ hard work. Why not go to karaoke?
M:Karaoke? Sorry, you know I am tone-deaf. I just want to go back home to have a rest.
W:Oh, come on!
Text 3
W: I hate to bring it up but the party you held ...
M:Yeah?
W:The music was played loudly into deep night and it kept me awake.
M:Oh, I’m sorry.
Text 4
M:The holiday is coming. I am googling the best places recommended for the winter vacation. Are you going somewhere, too?
W:Well, I hope to, but you know I have a kid and she is too young.
Text 5
M:Jennifer, what book are you reading?
W:It’s a collection of pictures of the outdoor sculptures of Greek.
M:I’m very interested in it. May I have a look?
W:Sure. Let’s read together.
Text 6
W:Hello, Tom. Are you here for the first period?
M:Um … no. I just came to meet the new history teacher, Mrs. Smith and I wasn’t expecting to see you here.
W:Why not?
M:Well … Lily, to be honest, the whole class is talking about how you got fired and were replaced by Mrs. Smith.
W:(laughs) Is that so? In some way they are right.
M:So we a re going to have Mrs. Smith?
W:In fact, you are talking to Mrs. Smith! I am not fired. I just got married over the summer vacation and changed my name!
Text 7
M:This music is awesome! I really enjoy it. How about you?
W:I’ve never listened to Irish music before, but I really like the music and the atmosphere of this place.
M:You can download some more to appreciate when you go back home. I’m sure you’ll love it! You know, it’s always been one of my favorites.
W:So what other kinds of music do you like?
M:Classic and Jazz.
W:Really? I love jazz, too. Every Friday night there is a Jazz concert in the local theatre not far from my home. Sometimes I drive there to listen to Jazz.
M:Sounds like fun. May I go along with you?
W:Of Course. But this Friday I have to visit my parents back home. What about next Friday?
M:Fine. I’ll pick you up at 6 sharp. We can have dinner together and then go to the concert.
W:Great!
Text 8
W:Take it easy, Matt. You’re going to be fine with my family.
M:I don’t know. I mean… what is your super successful father going to think about you dating an artist? He is the Regional Manager for Wal-Mart.
W:Yes, but actually he is quite easy-going.
M:And your brother?
W:He is getting his MBA right now at Harvard University.
M:Your sister?
W:She is the head of marketing in her company.
M:And you said your Mom had got a state award for her excellent work, right?
W:Yes. But don’t worry. They’re going to love you.
Text 9
W:Hey, Billy! Long time no see. What have you been doing lately?
M:I’ve visited several places of historical interest in Beijing. I have to say the Forbidden City impressed me most. And I’m thinking of going to the Great Wall and having a look of old Hutongs.
W:Talking about Hutongs, I once lived there when I was a little child.
M:Really? Come on! And tell me more about it.
W:Hutongs were heaven for children. We girls always played Jump Rope and hide-and-seek. Boys got together to hold Soccer matches.
M:Interesting! And I’ve also heard there are many twists and turns, right?
W:That’s true. So it is easy for people to lose their way. What seems rare to westerns is that a family with 3 or 4 generations may often live together.
M:No wonder people say the Hutongs have witnessed the traditional way of living in Beijing.
Text 10
W:Mr. Miller, your company recently conducted a survey about people’s idea of the body size of models, didn’t they?
M:Yes, we have interviewed about 25 000 people in 45 countries.
W:What were the results?
M:Well, 81 percent of online customers agree that female models are too thin. And they believe it is likely that young girls might mistakenly consider being slim means being beautiful as a consequence.
W:In which countries are people most strongly against skinny models?
M:Those with the best quality of life in the world, such as New Zealand, Switzerland and Australia. As many as 94 percent of those surveyed believe models are too thin. In their opinion, being healthy is the most important. However, in Asia, fewest people reject slimmest models.
W:That’s interesting.
