W: I got back from my trip last night,and the apartment was a total mess!

M: I’m sorry if you’re upset. My friends came over at 7:00,and we left at 9:00 to go to a bar. I planned on cleaning up when I got back. But when I got back, you’d already cleaned everything up.

W: I got back at one .I don’t know why you didn’t clean up before you left.

M: I said I was sorry and nobody forced you to clean the mess. You could’ve just left it for me to do, you know.

W: You know I can’t stand being in a dirty apartment.

M: Honestly, I don’t see the harm in leaving it for a while.My friends and I were a bit drunk, and it seemed wrong to make them wait for me to clean. But I understand you’re not happy. Say, let me buy you dinner to make it up to you, OK?

W: It’s great that there are such nice places to go swimming so close to San Francisco.I feel lucky to live in a city that’s in the middle of so much nature.

M: I agree—to think we just climbed a small mountain,hiked through a forest,and now we’re on a sandy beach,all in the space of a couple of hours. And all we had to do was drive across the Goblen Gate bridge to get here.

W: Well, there are some nice beaches in San Francisco,too,but I prefer the ones out here because there are fewer people.I was actually out here last weekend with my sister.

M: Really? I thought you said it had been two months since you went swimming in the ocean.

W: It has been that long.We didn’t go swimming last weekend because of the shark attack.

M: What shark attack?

W: A shark bit a 12-year-old boy while he was only in chest-high water off this beach. His brother dragged him back on the beach.and he almost died before he got to the hospital.

M: Wow. Now I suddenly don’t feel like swimming…
