W: Hey, Jack, is that your family?
M: Uh-huh. We were at Sun Restaurant for my grandma’s birthday.
W: Is that an Italian restaurant?

W: I didn’t know you had a sister.
M: Yeah, that’s Carmen. She’s into dance. She dances for hours every day.
W: I’ll bet she’s good.
M: I guess so.
W: That pasta looks delicious.

W: Hello. Mr. Green? This is Wanda speaking.
M: Oh, Mrs. Reed. Good morning. What’s the matter? I am waiting for you here.
W: I’m very sorry, Mr. Green. I am driving to your house now, but it looks like it will be impossible for me to get there by eight o’clock because of the traffic. That’s why I’m calling your to apologize.
M: That’s too bad. Where are you now? How long you think it will take you to get there
W: I’m near Yorkshire Station. I think it will take at least one more hour, so I should be there around 8:30. I am very sorry to keep you waiting. I should have left the hotel a little bit earlier.
M: That’s quite all right, Mrs. Reed. Don’t worry about it. Take your time.
W: Thank you, Mr. Green.
M: Bye.
Text 8
W: I really don’t like the way Rosie acts when we go out to eat.
M: Why? What does she do?
W: She’s really rude to the waiters and waitresses. She complains about everything.
M: Does she have any reason to complain?
W: No, every restaurant we’ve been to has had good food and good service. But Rosie still found things to complain about!
M: Sounds like no restaurant is good enough for Rosie.
W: No kidding! And we’re going to eat out this coming Friday night. It’s only two days away. She doesn’t listen to me. What should I do?
M: Invite some of your other coworkers to go with you. If the older ladies in your office see the way Rosie behaves, they’ll probably tell her to stop.
W: Good point! And maybe she’ll listen to them because they’re older. Thanks, Carl.
M: No problem. I hope it works out.
Text 9
M: Do you like travelling, Carol?
W: Yes, I’ve just come back from Nanjing.
M: How is the weather there usually?
W: It’s hot in summer and people say it’s one of “the stove cities” of China.
M: Oh? What does that mean?
W: It means it’s very hot in summer. To tell you the truth, I couldn’t put up with it sometimes.
M: I hate hot weather. Where did you go in Nanjing?
W: There are many interesting places to go, but I only had time to visit Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s Mausoleum (中山陵), one of the most famous sights in Nanjing.
M: How did you like the mausoleum?
W: It was magnificent. And what’s more, there was a beautiful view from there and a lot of fresh air!
M: You must have had a good time there.
W: Yes, except for the weather. And I took many photos.
M: Could I see them?
W: Sure!
