Red is used in many American expressions. It can be used to show 61 (happy), as in "a red-letter day". This is a day 62 something special happens. The expression is probably based on church customs. Mr. Johnson is a hardworking teacher. Every day, he spends too much time with his work. With little sleep and hardly any break, so he works from morning till night.
