W：You’re not supposed to just copy the book.
M：Oh! I think Mr. Harper won’t know.
W：He will know! He asked us to write a list of all the books we’d used. Remember? That’s not the point anyway...
M：What is the point then?
W：Well，the point is that you’re supposed to write your own project — you can’t copy someone else’s writing.
M：Well, you’re right. Thank you for reminding me of that.

W：Hi, Simon. Would you please tell us about one of your adventure travels?
M：I'd love to. Once I went on a boat trip up a long river in Africa. I stayed on the boat for fifty days! I never
walked on land in those days, not even for one second.
W：That's hard to believe! Simon, can you remember a time when you were really frightened?
M：Oh, yes. On another trip to Africa, it was night and I was being followed by some animals. I could hear the animals but I couldn’t see them. I couldn’t tell if they were dangerous.
W：My goodness! I would have been scared to death, What did you do?
M：I kept running. I thought that if I stopped, the animals would hurt me. I was very happy to see the sun in the morning.
W：Have you ever considered giving up your adventures?
M：Yes. I realized long ago that I should spend more time with my family, but I still love traveling. I always look forward to exciting experiences, but I'm sorry for leaving my family.

Mark Twain traveled quite a lot often because environments, usually economic conditions forced him to. He was born in Florida in 1835 and moved to Hannibal with his family when he was about 4 years old. Most people
think he was born in Hannibal but that wasn't true. After his father died when he was about 12% Mark Twain worked in Hannibal for a while and then left, so he could earn more money. He worked for a while as a typesetter on various newspapers and then got a job as a river pilot on the Mississippi. He loved this job and many of his books showed it. The river job didn’t last long because of the outbreak of the Civil War. Mark Twain was in the army for just 2 weeks and then he and his whole company went to the West to get away from the war. In Nevada and California, Mark Twain succeeded as a writer. Then he traveled around the country, giving lectures and earning enough money to go to Europe. He didn’t travel much in the last 10 years of his life and he didn’t publish much either. Somehow his travel, even when forced, inspired his writings. Like many other popular writers, Mark Twain gained much of the materials for his writing from his own personal experiences.
