the Prevention of Stampedes
At about 11:35pm, December 31st, a crowded stampede accident occurred in Chenyi Square, the bund of Shanghai Huangpu district when huge crowds of people gathered to watch the countdown to the New Year. By January 2nd, it had caused 36deaths and 49 injured people, most of whom were youths, with the average age 22.8 and the youngest aged 12. What a great grief！
 Such a catastrophe leaves me deep in thought. What on earth led to this severe stampede accident ? How can we prevent this kind of accidents in future?
To prevent such catastrophes from happening, I come up with some tips. For one thing , in some large scale activities or some crowded places, the authorities concerned should make emergency plans and take effective steps to keep public order . For another, citizens , especially youths, should be educated to develop the awareness of obeying public order and learn to keep calm and protect themselves when at risk. Only in this way can we create safe and harmonious surroundings .
