I am usually in a bad mood after a long day at work, but on this particular Friday afternoon I was in a cheerful mood.I planned to have a good meal and watch Bridget Jones's Diary.
My local supermarket is always busy. The first parking space I spotted was convenient, but I'd noticed a woman in an old car circling for a while.I let her have it.On the edge of the car park I backed into the next available spot—it was a tight fit.
In record time I'd made my way through the supermarket and was back in the fresh air.In such a rush of good spirits, I emptied my purse change into the hands of a homeless man and helped a struggling woman go backwards into a parking space.
Just as I spotted my car, 1 saw the woman I'd let have my car space earlier.I smiled and wished her a pleasant day.
As I got back into my car, I spotted the same lady looking ill at me."Hello," she said, hesitantly."This might sound crazy but I was on my way to drop some of my mother's things off at tile charity bins." I looked quickly at the orange bins in the corner of the parking lot, confused."I saw you helping those people, and you seemed so happy. My mom had a dress just like that."
She looked at me meaningfully.I smiled at her in encouragement, hoping she wouldn't notice that the dress she was admiring was now full of holes."I was going to give these away, but you are just so much like her." She passed a box in through the window.Shocked, unthinking, 1 took it automatically."I think she would like you to have it." She smiled and walked away.
After a pause, I opened the box.Inside was a beautiful gold necklace. It was the nicest gift I'd  ever received, and it was from a complete stranger.
Later, I thought back on the day.I didn't feel the usual sense of exhaustion. The necklace was around my neck, a warm reminder of human kindness.

A 15-year-old boy planned to put a ball covered with petrol into his mouth and set it on fire. He would film the dangerous action and put it on YouTube. And, lie hoped to become famous on the Internet.
But things didn't go the way he imagined. His clothing caught fire, and he was rushed to the hospital with serious bums on his body.
YouTube hosts millions of videos of people attempting dangerous actions. Many of them are by kids and young adults. Some experts say that by hosting these videos, YouTube encourages young viewers to take deadly risks.Research by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows that more than 180,000 Americans die from accidental injuries each year. That's one person every three minutes.More than 14,000 of those killed are kids under the age of 19.Is YouTube to blame?
People have always found it interesting to watch others try risky things..Audiences love these kinds of things. Some of the earliest Greek comedies had characters followed by wild animals and knocking into walls. Now, in the age of the Internet, anyone with a camera and a YouTube account can create this kind of 'fun".Many viewers, especially teenagers, are influenced by what they see and want to try it themselves."YouTube has taken the playing in the neighborhood to a worldwide level," says Clair Mellenthin, a researcher from the Centers.
Supporters of YouTnbe argue that it isn't YouTube's responsibility to examine its content."Parents should be the ones to make sure that kids are behaving safely," they say.In fact, YouTube has a rule on content. For example, dangerous activities that have a risk of serious physical harm or death are not allowed.Staff of YouTube, carefully watch the website 24 hours a day, looking for videos that are against their rules. But is this enough?

For many people the holiday season has arrived.Where do those travelling abroad go? UN figures suggest that France had more foreign visitors than any other country in 2012, while the most visited capital city is now, according to one city, Bangkok.
A recent study by the United Nations World Tourism Organization suggests that 83 million people visited France last year, even more than its population of 66 million.France attracts at least 16 million more visitors than the United States in second place, with China, Spain and Italy completing the top five most visited countries.
Yet in spite of its popularity as a holiday destination, it seems that the French have a problem convincing visitors to part with their cash.Tourism contributes 7% towards the country's GDP, more than the car industry. But the average amount of money every visitor spends—$646—falls behind every other country in the top 10 most visited list, except Russia.
Some 83% of France's visitors come from other European countries, which may explain the relatively low amount spent per head.A lot of them come from neighboring countries and often choose to camp and buy food from supermarkets, rather than go to the local hotels and restaurants.
By contrast, only 55% of foreign visitors to the US come through their two immediate Neighbors—Canada and Mexico—and according the US Travel Association., the other 45%—the long-distance travelers—contribute 78% of all traveling expenses, probably partly because they stay an average of 18 days.
The French capital may be known as the "City of Love", but only 16.8% of visitors to France visited Paris, according to the UN study. And with the French economy going down and the unemployment rate increasing in double figures, there is a need to encourage tourists to stay longer and spend more money.
"The average stay in Pairs is 2.7 nights. We know that Europeans spend two nights and that people from Asia and North America spend over a week," says Francois Navarro from the lie-de-France tourist authority.
"Our goal is to make visitors stay longer because if they do they'll spend more money on accommodation and shopping. So we need to organize huge events. The Olympic Games are an aim for us," he says.
68.In which of the following countries did visitors spend the least in 2012?
A.France.         B.The UK.       C.Russia.         D.Germany
69.The visitors don't spend much in France mainly because____.
A.the prices of goods in France are low
B.many visitors are from other European countries
C.lots of French people are out of work
D.the French economy is in a terrible condition

70.What can we learn from the text?
A.Long-distance travelers usually stay longer in a foreign country.
B.About 16 million people visited the US in 2012.
C.China isn't among top three most visited countries.
D.Paris is most visitors' first choice when they go to France.
7 I.France is facing the main problem of____ at present.
A.attracting more foreign visitors
B.developing more tourist spots
C.encouraging visitors to stay longer
D.improving the service in tourist spots

Recently, many shoppers chose to avoid the crazy crowds and do their holiday shopping from the comfort of their computer.Sales at online stores gained by more than 15%, making it the biggest season ever. But people are also returning those purchases at record rates, up 8% from last year.
What went wrong? Is the shadow of the global financial crisis making it harder to accept excessive addiction? Or that people shop more impulsively (冲动地)—and therefore make bad decisions —when online? Both arguments are seemingly reasonable. However, there is a third factor: a question of touch. We can love (lie look but, in an online environment, we cannot feel the quality of a texture (质地), the shape of the fit, the fall of a fold or, for that matter, the weight of an earring. And physically interacting with an object makes you more committed to your purchase.
When my most recent book Brandwashed was released, I joined up with a local bookstore to conduct an experiment about the difference between the online and offline shopping experience.I carefully instructed a group of volunteers to promote my book in two different ways. The first was a fairly hands-off approach.Whenever a customer would ask about my book, the volunteer would take them over to the shelf and point to it.Out of 20 such requests, six customers made the purchase.
The second option also involved going over to the shelf but, this time, removing the book and then holding onto it for just an extra moment before placing it in the customer's hands.Of the 20 people who were handed the book, 13 ended up buying it.Just physically passing the book showed a big difference in sales. Why? We feel something similar to a sense of ownership when we hold things in our hand. That's why we establish connection by greeting strangers and friends with a handshake. In this case, having to then let go of the book after holding it might produce a sense of loss, and motivate us to make the purchase even more.
A recent study also showed the power of touch, in this case when it came to traditional mail.A deeper and longer-lasting impression of a message was formed when delivered ill a letter, as opposed to receiving the same message online.Brain images showed that, on touching the paper, the emotional center of the brain was activated, thus forming a stronger bond. The study also indicated that once touch becomes part of the process, it could translate into a sense of possession.
This sense of ownership is simply not part of the situation in the online shopping experience.
72.Why do people prefer shopping online according to the author?
A. It saves them a lot of money and time.www.yggk.net
B.It is more comfortable and convenient.
C.It offers them a lot more options and bargains.
D.It gives them more time to think about their purchase.

73.Why do more customers return their purchases bought online?
A.They regretted being addicted to costly goods in the financial crisis.
B.They changed their mind by the time (lie goods were delivered.
C.They later found the quality of goods below their expectations.
D.They had no chance to touch them when shopping online.
74.How might people feel after letting go of something they held?
A.A sense of disappointment.             B.A loss of interest.
C.More motivated to possess it.           D.Less sensitive to its texture
75.What is the purpose of author's experiment?
A.To find out people's reaction to his recent book.
B.To test his assumption about online shopping.
C.To find ways to increase the sale of his new book.
D.To try different approaches to sales promotion.
