Text 1
W: Jim, you are on the net.
M: Just a minute, dear! I’m looking at the new jewelry site. I want to make sure I get the right gift for mom’s birthday.
Text 2
W: Could you tell me the timetable of the school bus?
M: Well, the bus leaves the campus every two hours starting at 6:30am. But on Saturdays it starts
half an hour later.
Text 3
M: I’ll have to go to class because I’ll have a test; but if I could, I’d go with you to the movies.
W: That’s too bad, I wish that you could come along.
Text 4
W: Wow! Look at the dress. Isn't it beautiful?
M: Yes, it is. And it's on sale.
W: I think I will buy it. It's such a bargain.
Text 5
W: I just saw “The Third Man” for the fourth time. I still really enjoy it.
M: That’s nothing. I have seen it twice as many and my brother has seen it ten times.
Text 6
W:I can’t sleep very well. Could I take some sleeping pills, please?
M: Is anything worrying you?www.yggk.net
W: Well, perhaps…I’m working very hard. We’re very busy at the moment.
M: Well. I don’t really like giving patients sleeping pills. You must have a good rest. Forget all about work. If you can’t sleep, have a hot bath before you go to bed, and then read a boring book. Don’t choose exciting ones.
W: Oh, but I like a drink before I go to bed.
M: Ok, have a glass of milk. Have some fruit or bread but don’t have a big meal in the evening.
Text 7
W: Good afternoon, Mr. Dunn. Nice to see you again.
M: Good afternoon, Lee Li. I came from Hong Kong yesterday.
W: Really? Was it on business or just sightseeing?
M: On business. The trip was most interesting and enjoyable.
W: Glad to hear that. Would you like to have a drink first, Mr. Dunn?
M: Yes, a beer, please. Thank you.
W: You are welcome, sir. Need I take your orders now?
M: Yes, please. I am very hungry.
Text 8
M: Hi, Mary, you have really fine skin! What’s your secret?
W: Oh, thank you. In fact, I don’t do anything. Why do you want to know?
M: I have oily, sensitive skin, which really annoys me. How can I make it better?
W: Well, don’t worry. Wash your face with mild water twice everyday, and then pat it dry with a clean towel.
M: Wow! Should I use this cream?
W: Oh, just use a small amount on the oily areas.
M: OK, thank you.
W: And you ought to do a deep facial cleansing every three to four weeks.
M: Thank you.
W: You’re welcome.
Text 9
M: Hello, I’d like some information about trips to Katmandu.
W: Well, how can I help you?
M: I hear there’s a special kind of bus with sleeping rooms.
W: Yes, that’s true.
M: How many people travel on the bus?
W: Well, the bus sleeps ten. Usually there are eight travelers, two drivers, and a girl to act as your guide.
M: So, we sleep comfortably in the bus.
W: Yes. It’s fully equipped for cooking, and weather permitting it’s got a shower system that we set up outside every evening.
M: We leave from London?
W: Yes, and return to London.
M: Oh, I see. Now can you tell me about the deadline for booking?
W: Well, it depends. Usually six or eight months before you travel. Could you come and we can go over the details?
M: OK, I’ll come and see you next Wednesday.
W: OK, thanks for calling. www.yggk.net
Text 10
W: Well, Mr Smith, we have had an interesting discussion about your work. Now, tell us something about your afterwork activities.
M: I’m interested in sports, and I run about 3 miles every day, I particularly enjoy cross-country running, where you have to run across fields, jump over streams and so on. While I’m running I think about lots of things, and at the end of a run, I’m sometimes surprised to find that I’ve managed to solve a problem that was on my mind. Next year I’m going to try the London Marathon. It’s a long, hard race, 26 miles, or 42 kilometers. I worry a bit about getting old, and I’d like to prove to myself that I’m still almost as fit as I was twenty years ago. I’m interested in climbing as well as running. I successfully completed a course in snow and ice climbing when I was younger. My wife doesn’t share my interest in mountains. She agreed to go climbing with me once, but she found that she felt ill as soon as she got above 1,000 meters, so we decided to follow different hobbies.
