W:Hello. George! I wanted to speak to you yesterday, but you weren’t at your usual place for lunch.
M:No. I had a day off from the newspaper office because I worked so much overtime last week.
W:Oh. I see. You had a holiday.
M:Well! I stayed at home and looked after the baby.
W:What? You took care of the baby? Whose baby?
M:Oh, it was my sister’s baby. She wanted to go shopping in the morning, so I stayed at home and did a lot of useful things.
W:Oh?
M:Yes. I mended my radio, washed a shirt and some socks, and cleaned out the drawers of my desk.
W:I don’t call that a holiday. I wanted to ask you to the concert last night. The one at the Town Hall near where we live.
M:That’s funny! My office called me in the afternoon and asked me to go and write an article about the concert. I noticed that you weren’t there, but your friend Mary was.
W:Was she indeed? That’s very strange.

W:I got the E-mail you sent. It sounds like you had a good time in Italy.
M:I had a great time. I visited some old friends. Everything went pleasantly.
W:What was the best part of your holiday?
M:Being with my relatives. They are really kind people. It’s too bad that you couldn’t go with me.
W: I know. But I’m sure I can go with you next time. I want very much to see your parents, too. You can translate my native language Chinese into Italian when I’m with them.
M:No problem. We can also bring our daughter with us. She will return from America by then.
Text 10
Good morning, everyone. Today I’d like to give a lecture on cycling tours. Well, for anyone who is considering going on a tour, the first thing to consider is safety. So it’s very important indeed to consider what you wear. Wear something that can easily be seen, red jackets, for example. You know many accidents happen, because drivers simply fail to see the cyclists. Second, don’t try to ride too far, too quickly. Take your time, and if you feel tired, stop and rest. Remember that the joy of cycling tours is the ride itself. Get close to nature and see things you wouldn’t normally see when you were traveling by car or bus. And if you’re planning your journey in the summer, take plenty of water. You are advised to drink at least one liter of water every hour. If the weather is not very warm, make sure you take some warm clothes. And put them on when you stop riding. Even in cold weather you can become very warm when you are riding and then it is very easy to catch a cold, or even get a fever when you stop.
