(Text1)
W: Do you know how to put this part back on the machine?
M: I have no idea. You should have called someone to fix it.
W: It’s been driving me crazy. Oh, well. I’ll just call in a repairman.
(Text 2)
W: It’s so noisy. I can’t hear what the lecturer says.
M: Neither can I. I just want to go back to my dormitory to sleep. But before that I need to return a book.
W: OK. Let’s go together.
(Text 3)
M: When will your dad get back from his business trip? He’s been away for a long time.
W: Yes. It’s three weeks now. He won’t be back for another two weeks.
M: That is a long time. More than a month.
(Text 4)
W: What did you think of the tennis match on TV last night?
M: Oh, my mum wouldn’t let me watch it because I hadn’t finished my homework. But then my friend called me, so I spent all evening on the phone.
(Text 5)
W: Good morning, officer.
M: Good morning, madam. What can I do for you?
W: All the cars have stayed here for nearly an hour. What’s the matter?
M: Sorry, madam. There’s a traffic jam somewhere from Newton Road to Polkeith Road.
(Text 6)
W: Excuse me, can you tell me where the cinema is?
M: Oh, I’m going there. Maybe you can go with me.
W: OK, thank you. I heard there was a wonderful movie tonight. So I’m going to buy the tickets.
M: Yeah, me too. I like the actor very much. Are you alone or with a companion?
W: My kid will go with me. He’s 7 years old.
M: Oh, the movie is very suitable for him I think. It’s the story of some good friends who take a trip together and come into many funny things. He’ll laugh through the performance.
W: I see. Thank you very much.
(Text 7)
W: Dan, why don’t you say hello to your neighbors?
M: They just moved here. And I don’t like them.
W: Aren’t they easy-going?
M: Not in that way. They seem to be friendly whenever you see them.
W: That sounds not bad.
M: But their dogs are too noisy and they often come into my yard.
W: I think dogs are lovely.
M: But I don’t like dogs. They’re too scary and dangerous. Every time I want to go out, I have to look through the window to see whether a dog is there or not.
W: Have you talked to them about this?
M: No, if the dog comes in, I’ll call the police.
W: I think you’d better talk to your neighbors first.
